My name is Julie Breer and this is my 2nd year at Underwood as the K-12 counselor. I want to let you know about some exciting things happening in the area of counseling this year at our school. This year in my classroom lessons with K-2 I will be teaching students about feelings and coping strategies using the Kimochis and other fun resources. For students in 3rd and 4th grade my focus will be more on building character and the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Along with classroom lessons I will meet with students on an individual basis to help them with emotional, social or academic issues. In addition to my services we have a therapist from Lakeland Mental Health come to our school once a week to meet with students who are in need of her services. Some events we have planned so far are students in 4th grade will be attending a Kindness Retreat in November and 9th grade students will be attending a Respect Retreat in January with the Youth Frontiers program. These are one day events held here in Underwood and it will be very fun and educational for the students. For our high school students to explore their options after graduation we are taking them to events such as the Career Expos in Fergus Falls and Fargo, the College Fair in Fargo and Sneak a Peek event at Alexandria Technical College. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at jbreer@underwood.k12.mn.us or call me at 218-8266101 x451.
