Envirothon

The Minnesota Envirothon is part of a national program for high school students designed to promote natural resources involvement and education. An outdoor learning event for students in grades nine through 12, the Minnesota Envirothon is one of the state's largest environmental education initiatives.

Teams of students visit five learning stations, including soils, aquatics, wildlife, forestry, and current events, and answer 20 hands-on questions relation to the station's topic. They also give a brief oral presentation on a topic related to the environment.

The 2010-2011 school year's topic was about freshwater estuarys where the St. Louis River flows into Lake Superior. Students from Underwood placed well enough at the local competition held at Prairie Wetlands in Fergus Falls to advance to compete at the state level, which was appropriately held in Duluth by Lake Superior. At the state competition, Underwood placed 5th.
